Abstract

The Design course at the Huíla Higher Polytechnic Institute (ISPH) of Mandume Ya Ndemufayo University (UMN), our strategy was focused on incorporating ecological and environmental issues and sustainable design concepts into the curriculum of Chairs and final works of the Design course. The goal was to create an environmentally conscious and efficient professional in their design and environmental management, which meant taking on two aspects of training: one aimed at having a general knowledge in shaping values and another focused on rigorously applying the environmental and sustainability criteria in their profession to new scenarios. In the Design course, we set out to train designers who respond to a Professional Model with a high social and patriotic commitment, aware of the need to put design at the service of our society, capable of incorporating an economic, ecological and humanist conscience that contributes For the sustainable development and responsible practices of the design activity, besides developing his professional activity with responsibility and ethics, he creatively faced the solution to the problems of the profession, in any of his areas of expertise. To achieve the above, it is emphasized that the Designers curriculum is directly connected to the latent needs extracted from our sociocultural context which, once characterized, analyzed and valued, become the professional problems to be solved during the course since graduation, university extension and research, translated into teaching exercises.
